Civil War Band Festival     The Band of the California Battalion

Friday Head Quarters in the Field VA. May 20th, 1864 (from diary of Josiah Slick)

I eat breakfast and was called out in line of Battle as usual and marched to the entrenchments. We lay there all day till 4 oclock P.M. then went to Supper. I went on Picket  was attacked at 11:00 oclock by Rebs. There Band played so sweet and nice and all at once they fired on us but only wounded 2 of the 55th and killed one.  I of course slept none on PicketS
